Plus - October is National Popcorn Poppin' Month!

Thursday, October 9th
For many children, Christmas morning comes without gifts under the tree. The Salvation Armyās Angel Tree program changes that by providing new clothes and toys to kids in need right in your community.
When you donate, youāre not just giving a present - youāre giving hope, joy, and the reminder that someone cares.
š This Week in Indiana History š
The First Parke County Covered Bridge Festival is Held (1957)
This week in Indiana History, we recognize the first Parke County Covered Bridge Festival, created to celebrate the countyās 31 covered bridges. At that time, only around 250 people attended the three-day event. It was originally organized by a group of local women who wanted to not only celebrate the bridges, but also unite the communities around the county.
Over time, the festival has expanded from a small three-day event to a large 10-day event that is attended by (checks notes) TWO MILLION PEOPLE every year! It is the largest festival in Indiana and one of the largest festivals in the country.
Today, the festival showcases dozens of vendors, arts and crafts, and guided tours of the various towns in the county. The first festivalās spirit is felt every year as local craftsmanship and the heritage of the county is honored.
Mark your calendar: the 2025 festival starts tomorrow, Oct. 10, and runs through Oct. 19!
Looking for the perfect pumpkin to carve and dress up your front porch this October? Weāve got you covered with the best pumpkin patches in northern, central and southern Indiana.

Are you a thrill-seeker wanted to enter some of Indianaās top haunted houses, or would a family-friendly Halloween event be more up your alley? Good news: We created a guide to some of the best in both spooky categories, and Indiana Farm Bureau ran a list of its best haunted houses across the state.
October 2025 is the 26th year of National Popcorn Poppinā Month, and Indiana knows a thing or two about its popcorn. Our friends at Indiana Farm Bureau shared that as recent as 2023, the Hoosier State led the nation in popcorn production.
And that checks out. Indiana is home to leading popcorn companies and brands like Cousin Willieās in Ramsey, Pop Weaver based out of Van Buren, Gutwein Popcorn in Francesville, and Yoder Popcorn in Shipshewana. Plus, thereās the annual Harrison County Popcorn Festival in Corydon, a two-day celebration that has a literal popcorn sprayer in its parade. And of course, thereās the long-standing Valparaiso Popcorn Festival, which all started with celebrating popcorn scientist, businessman and Indiana native Orville Redenbacher in 1979.
Pro tip: Salt and butter are traditional ways to add flavor to your popcorn, but consider mixing milk chocolate or peanut M&Mās in the next time youāre craving the popular snack.

The best fine dining south of I-70 is Butcher and Barrel in Huntingburg. Housed in an almost 100-year-old former bank, this place takes it up a notch with unbelievable food and cocktails.
The West Side Nut Club Fall Festival in Evansville has been named the No. 1 fall festival in the United States each of the last three years by USA Today. It started in 1921 and today hosts over 200,000 people annually thanks to 134 food vendors serving up crazy items like pig brain sandwiches, Wildcat chicken and waffles, burnt end parfaits, donut burgers, deep fried Oatmeal Creme Pie sandwiches and so much more.
Maybe coolest of all? The Nut Club Festival pumps millions of dollars back into the community. Food vendors keep 100% of proceeds raised, and 50% of the half pot is divided among dozens of nonprofits in Evansville.
Now, thatās where you come in. The 2024 Half Pot swelled to over $2 million, meaning the half pot made a literal millionaire last year while the other half fueled nonprofit needs. Now in its seventh year, the half pot is already up over $1.1 million and is tracking to be the largest on record. For the first time ever, anyone in the state of Indiana can buy half pot tickets online until 9 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 11, for a chance to win.

Jonathan Taylor found the end zone three times, Daniel Jones delivered touchdown strikes to Tyler Warren and Michael Pittman Jr., and the Indianapolis Colts improved to 3-0 at Lucas Oil Stadium and 4-1 overall with a 40-6 shellacking of the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
Taylor ground out 66 yards on 17 rush attempts to go with his three scores, and Jones led another turnover-free effort with 212 yards on 20 of 29 passing. After a three-and-out on their opening possession, the Colts cashed in touchdowns on their next six offensive possessions.
Las Vegas chewed up nearly 10 minutes of clock in the first quarter on a 16-play drive that ended in a field goal. After the Jones-to-Warren connection capped a 13-play drive to put Indianapolis on top 7-3, the Raidersā next six offensive possessions went like thisā¦
Blocked punt. Interception. Missed field goal. Punt. Interception. Turnover on downs.
A four-point game midway through the second quarter quickly became a 17-point halftime cushion, and it only got better for the Colts from there.
Get Indiana would like to wish a speedy recovery to Westfield native and Colts kicker Spencer Shrader, who is out for the season after suffering a right leg injury on a roughing-the-kicker penalty. Shrader had been nearly automatic so far this season, making 13 of 14 field goals and all 14 of his extra-point attempts.
Next up: Home vs. Arizona Cardinals, Sunday, 1 p.m.
