Ambrose Bierce Reported Missing (1914)

When Ambrose Bierce wrote “The Devil’s Dictionary,” it was meant to be a humorous satire on an actual dictionary… until it eventually became one of the greatest masterpieces of American literature. Though many people have not heard of him, Bierce’s war stories are said to have inspired authors like Ernest Hemingway and Stephen Crane.

Ambrose enlisted with the 9th Indiana Infantry out of Elkhart and joined the American Civil War in 1861. His experiences on the battlefield greatly influenced his writing. He eventually found work after the war as a journalist with various newspapers, first with an abolitionist newspaper called the Northern Indianan out of Warsaw.

In an effort to gain firsthand experience on the Mexican Revolution, Ambrose left the U.S. to put his boots on the ground in Mexico during the war. It is unknown what happened after he got there, but he was officially reported missing this week in 1914. His body was never found.

French Lick is one of the Midwest’s most distinctive destinations. From luxury resorts and fine dining to historic attractions and golf getaways, French Lick is a must if you’re planning a trip to southern Indiana.

Colts, just another Sunday. Fever, silencing the critics.

Jonathan Taylor (102 rushing yards, 3 TDs) and Daniel Jones (18 of 25, 228 yards, 1 TD) were outstanding, and the defense (looking at you Kenny Moore II pick-six) and special teams delivered in the Colts’ 41-20 drubbing of the Titans on Sunday. The Colts are off to their first 3-0 start since 2009.

Sadly, Rigoberto Sanchez had to punt midway through the second quarter. The stat below is amazing.

Last Thursday, the Indiana Fever went on the road for a winner-take-all Game 3 against the Atlanta Dream and scored the final seven points in an 87-85 comeback win to advance to the WNBA semifinals.

Then on Sunday, the Fever played road spoiler, burying second-seeded Las Vegas 89-73 in Game 1 of their best-of-five series. Keep in mind, the Aces had won 18 of their last 19 games before Kelsey Mitchell dropped 34 points on their head.

The Fever fell in Game 2 on Tuesday, but Games 3 and 4 tomorrow and Sunday are at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Series clinch, anyone?
