📜 This Week in Indiana History 📜
The Indiana 9/11 Memorial is Dedicated (2011)
On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people senselessly lost their lives in an attack perpetrated by Al Qaeda, an Islamist extremist terrorist group led by Osama Bin Laden. The attacks occurred in New York City at the World Trade Center, and Washington D.C. at the Pentagon. Every year, the victims are honored in ceremonies across the United States.
On the 10th anniversary of the attack, the Indiana 9/11 Memorial was dedicated. The memorial is located next to Fire Station 13 in downtown Indianapolis and was designed to honor the firefighters from the Hoosier State that were called into action to help with the cleanup. INTF-1 spent eight days at Ground Zero in search and rescue efforts after the attacks.
The memorial consists of two 11,000-pound beams from the Twin Towers. On top of one of the beams stands a bald eagle, wings outstretched and facing east, in the direction of New York City. Never Forget.

The Monroe County Fall Festival and 50th Anniversary of Lanesville Heritage Weekend both kick off today, and they’re just two of nine fall festivals across Indiana we think you should have on your 2025 bucket list.
From apple pies and covered bridges to heritage parades and Halloween fun, the Hoosier State offers something for everyone in autumn. Our ultimate fall festival travel guide covers festivals happening this weekend through the end of October.

Happy Hour, Happier You
Nothing beats a good happy hour, and The HC Tavern + Kitchen knows how to do it right. Whether you’re unwinding after work or kicking off a night out, its drink specials and shareable bites are exactly what you need. Grab some friends, find a seat at the bar, and toast to good times. Pull up a chair and enjoy!
The Get Indiana crew was in Greensburg and stopped for lunch at Carriage on the Square Smokehouse, the go-to barbecue spot in the area.
We had some of the best barbecue food ever. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, from the Walking Pony or Nachos with Mac and Cheese to the Smoked Chicken Burrito Bowl and the Wobbling Carriage, a loaded baked potato about the size of a football. Somehow, we saved enough room to delete some homemade biscuits and strawberry shortcake, too.
Kudos to Hans and his team for providing exceptional food and service to Greensburg and the surrounding communities (750+ reviews and 4.7 stars on Google back it up).
It was our first visit there. It won’t be our last.
This past March, New Castle became home to a new vendor mall and vintage market called Junque in the Trunk. It features over 70 vendors and is a must-visit for lovers of antiques, home decor and collectibles.
Check out our full breakdown of Junque in the Trunk, and add it to your fall schedule.

Last Sunday was a big day for two of Indiana’s professional sports teams.
First, the Indianapolis Colts — on a day late owner Jim Irsay was inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor — dismantled the Miami Dolphins 33-8 to snap an 11-year Week 1 losing streak.
Daniel Jones was magnificent in his Colts debut, completing 22 of 29 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed seven times for 26 yards and two scores. Rookie tight end Tyler Warren had a game-high nine targets and seven receptions. Oh, and the Colts scored on all seven of their offensive possessions.
Second, the Indiana Fever clinched their second consecutive trip to the WNBA Playoffs with a 94-65 win over the Washington Mystics. They will be the No. 6 or 7 seed when the playoffs begin on Sunday.
The Fever showed tremendous resilience in reaching the postseason thanks to the MVP-level play of Kelsey Mitchell. If you haven’t been following, they lost Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald and Chloe Bibby to season-ending injuries.
