Continuing with last week’s theme of Abraham Lincoln, The Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial was established this week in Indiana in 1962. Lincoln lived on the site from 1816 to 1830, from the ages of 7 to 21. President Kennedy signed it into law as a national memorial on Feb. 19, 1962.
The memorial is located in Spencer County in the renamed district of Lincoln City, Ind. Unfortunately, the original log cabin where Lincoln lived is no longer standing, though a replica cabin has taken its place. It is still a very well-known monument in Indiana, where it plays host to over 100,000 visitors per year.

Peyton Manning, the once golden arm of the Indianapolis Colts, 2-time Super Bowl winner, 5-time MVP and Hall of Fame inductee, made a brief appearance on the 50th anniversary celebration of Saturday Night Live this past weekend. His words of advice (jokingly) at the 8:10 mark of the below segment with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey? Never retire. Peyton will forever be on the Mount Rushmore of Indianapolis athletes, and his humor is right up there with the best of ‘em, too. 😅

Yesterday on the Indiana University Indianapolis campus, ground officially broke for the eventual construction of James T. Morris Arena. The 134,500 square foot arena with a 4,500 seating capacity is expected to be completed in 2026 and will house IU Indianapolis men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, university athletic offices and USA Track & Field.
James Morris, an IU alumnus, died last July at the age of 81 and is one of, if not the most, influential philanthropists Indianapolis has ever seen. The former Pacers Sports & Entertainment executive was key in the development of Market Square Arena, the Hoosier Dome, Indianapolis Zoo, establishment of Indiana Sports Corp and creation of IUPUI, among dozens of other notable accomplishments. Downtown Indianapolis wouldn’t be where it is today without James Morris, and now the university he helped create will have a glamorous arena in his honor.

An inaugural two-day rock festival is coming to Indiana in July! Mark your calendar for July 11-12 when Corn Stock Unplugged takes over the Bill Monroe Music Campground south of Morgantown in Brown County. The rock festival will showcase 30 local bands across three stages each day. Festival goers can camp out, hook up an RV, or stay in a cabin, and there is plenty of entertainment beyond the performers that will ensure you have a blast including pro wrestling matches, Colts player autograph signings, circus acts, farm animals, art, fair games, a kids’ water park, and contests like a $1,500 Cornhole Tournament and $100 Longest Football Throw. The best part? $5 of every ticket sold will support Indiana veterans in need. Rock on. 🫡🇺🇸

The 2025 IHSAA Wrestling State Finals are set for Friday and Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The postseason began with 3,394 wrestlers competing across the state, and the field narrowed to 224 state finalists (14 weight classes, 16 state finalists per bracket) through sectional, regional and semi-state competitions. Among the 224 state finalists is Crown Point junior Austin Reading, who finished second in the 215-pound weight class at the East Chicago Semi-State. Tragically, his mother passed away just before the start of the postseason after a 13-year battle with brain cancer, but with the support of his teammates, coaches, and Crown Point community, Austin persevered and punched his ticket downtown. I look forward to shaking his hand during the Parade of Champions Friday afternoon and cheering him on later that evening. Another of the 224 state finalists is Indianapolis Bishop Chatard senior Sam Bustamante, who knocked off the No. 13 and No. 5 state ranked wrestlers to advance through the 144-pound weight class at the New Castle Semi-State. Bustamante had qualified for semi-state as a freshman, sophomore, and junior but fell short in each attempt to advance to state. You get knocked down three times, you get up again. Check out the emotion from Bustamante and Bishop Chatard supporters as the final seconds ticked away in his match to qualify for state. 👏🤼♂️
