Indiana Establishes State Seminary (1820)
This week in Indiana history, it only seems fitting to have the history section be about the 1820 establishment of a State Seminary by Governor Jonathan Jennings. The seminary would later became known as Indiana College in 1828 and eventually in 1838, renamed to what it is today ā Indiana University.
The first classes taught were Ancient Greek and Latin in 1825, and the seminary had around a dozen students. Why is that noteworthy? Itās been mentioned during IUās College Football Playoff run, but the Hoosiers have the largest living alumni base of any college or university with over 805,000 alumni worldwide.
On Monday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, the top-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (15-0) look to make history in the programās first-ever national championship game appearance. Standing in their way of a perfect season, national title, and immortality? The No. 10 Miami Hurricanes (13-2), winners of seven straight.
The road to Miami has been smooth sailing for the Hoosiers, who disposed of No. 9 Alabama 38-3 in the Rose Bowl CFP quarterfinal before bludgeoning No. 5 Oregon 56-22 in the Peach Bowl CFP semifinal. On the other side of the bracket, the Hurricanes silenced No. 7 Texas A&M 10-3 on the road before topping No. 2 Ohio State 24-14 in the Cotton Bowl quarter and No. 6 Ole Miss 31-27 on a late touchdown in the Fiesta Bowl semifinal.
The Hoosiers and āCanes have met only twice all time, with Indiana taking the first contest 28-14 in 1964 and Miami returning the favor two years later, 14-7. Both games were played in Miami.
Hereās a full preview of the CFP National Championship. Letās go Hoosiers!

After more than 90 years of being closed to the public, the historic Billiard and Bowling Pavilion at French Lick Resort has reopened, returning one of Indianaās oldest recreational buildings to active use for the first time since the 1930s. In its early years, the pavilion served guests of the French Lick Springs Hotel and the nearby West Baden Springs Hotel. However, its life was short-lived because of economic pressures following West Badenās shutdown during the Great Depression.
Learn more about the pavilion here, and add it to your French Lick must-visit list.

We already mentioned Indiana and the upcoming College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday, but how did the Hoosiers get there in the first place?
Well, last Friday night IU annihilated another CFP opponent and beat the absolute brakes off Oregon 56-22. The Hoosiers never trailed in their second win of the season over the Ducks, with DāAngelo Pondsā pick-six on the gameās first play setting the stage.
Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza was surgical and carving up the Ducks for 177 yards and five touchdowns on 17 of 20 passing. Elijah Sarratt made big catch after big catch, finishing with 75 yards receiving and two scores.
