Get Indiana’s Weekly Newsletter

Good morning, Indiana!

We just crossed a big milestone — 10 of our 15 partner seats for 2026 are already sold. That means only five Indiana businesses have the chance to lock in their spot alongside some of the most recognizable brands in the state.

Get IN. has grown into one of the state’s go-to sources for discovering the people, places and stories that make Indiana special. Our partners aren’t just advertisers, they’re part of that story, connecting directly with tens of thousands of Hoosiers who love supporting fellow Hoosiers.

With limited spots remaining, we’re looking for Indiana-based businesses that want to be front and center in 2026 across all our media properties. These are year-long seats, and once they’re filled, we won’t have space again until 2027.

If your business wants to Get IN., reply to this email and I’ll send over 2026 sponsor details.

Now, enjoy the rest of this week’s newsletter and make today better than the last!

📜 This Week in Indiana History 📜

Dan Quayle Nominated as Vice President (1988)

Today we are talking about something you’re told NOT to talk about around the dinner table… that’s right, we’re talking politics. Regardless of what side of the aisle you are on, we are celebrating a vice president from the Hoosier State, Dan Quayle.

Quayle was born in Indianapolis in 1947, moved to Arizona during his youth, and returned to Huntington where he graduated from Huntington North High School in 1965. After graduation, he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from DePauw University in 1969 and then joined the Indiana National Guard while enrolling at IUPUI, where he earned his J.D.

In 1988 Quayle was named as the running mate of George H.W. Bush, and they won the election. Quayle, a former senator, was vice president from 1989-93. His time as VP was mostly remembered for making comments that certain members of the media saw as gaffes, and he gained a reputation for not being a great public speaker. Despite his missteps, Quayle visited 47 countries and was named Chairman of the National Space Council during his time as VP.

Hoosier Headlines

The time is almost here for the biggest golf tournament Indiana has hosted in decades, except this isn’t your average golf outing. It’s LIV Golf. It’s the final LIV individual tournament of the regular season. It’s the last chance for players to move up in the individual standings. It’s all that and a bag of chips.

Unfamiliar? Get familiar. 54 holes, 54 golfers, shotgun starts, individual and team play, players looking to stay in or jump into the Lock Zone to secure a contract for the 2026 season, and post-round performances by Riley Green on Friday and Jason Derulo on Saturday.

As for the golf talent, Joaquin Niemann and Jon Rahm will duel it out for the Individual Championship that comes with an $18 million bonus. Bryson DeChambeau is third in the standings right now, but Patrick Reed is one of three golfers who could mathematically catch and pass him. Fan favorites like Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Bubba Watson, Sergio Garcia and Phil Mickelson are also in the field.

Last week we shared a road trip guide for Hoosier history buffs. This week we’re turning our attention to nature lovers and the great outdoors with six places across Indiana to hike trails, discover waterfalls, explore caves and take in some of the Hoosier State’s most picturesque settings.

We started in northern Indiana with Indiana Dunes National Park, but what other outdoor destinations cracked our top six? If you’ve got a spot you think we should explore, reply to this email so we can pack our bags and get back on those No. 1 rated Indiana roads!

We curated a list of the seven best places to live in Indiana. Whether it’s affordable housing, entertainment and attractions, or exceptional school systems, each community listed has a draw to it that is leading to growth.

Spoiler alert: Carmel made the cut. As for the other six? You’ll have to click here, where you can also fill out a form to receive housing recommendations across the state.

🍕 A Slice of Indiana History, Fresh Daily

When it comes to pizza in Indiana, there's history, and then there's Greek's. Since 1969, they've been hand-crafting pizzas that have become a Hoosier tradition. Fresh dough made every morning, that signature sauce everyone tries to copy (but can't), and toppings that actually taste like they should.

Tired of chain pizza that tastes like it came from nowhere? Greek's has been doing it right for over 50 years, and you can taste the difference.

Find your nearest Greek's at greekspizzeria.com.

If you’re looking for the best fish and chips in all of Indiana, look no further than Payne’s Restaurant in Gas City.

Patrick Howard of Bad Dad Brewing Co. in Fairmount recently joined the Get IN. Podcast and couldn’t say enough about the fish and chips at Payne’s Restaurant. His sentiment is shared in their over 2,500 Google reviews and 4.6-star rating. If you aren’t feeling fish and chips, guests also rave about the bangers and mash, chicken curry and other British-inspired items on the menu.

There’s a pop machine in northern Indiana with a cult following, and we are the latest member of said cult.

Located in the middle of Claypool at the corner of Packerton Road and 700S, the Packerton Pop Machine has been kicking out ice cold cans of pop for over two decades.

Just how beloved is the sun-faded pop machine? It’s got 46 Google reviews and 4.8 stars, and its Facebook page has nearly 1,000 likes. Not convinced yet? Here’s a mic drop Google review from one of the machine’s biggest fans, Collin Chupp: “Quite literally the greatest soda machine in Indiana, if not the Midwest. Don’t listen to the 1 star review, the soda is always fresh and cold as the Rockies. This is truly a national treasure.”

With only four days remaining to enjoy the sights, sounds, smells and, maybe most importantly, tastes of the 2025 Indiana State Fair, we wanted to recognize the top three finishers in the Taste of the Fair competition settled on votes by fairgoers.

The Indiana State Fair announced Wednesday that among 33 different items, BBQ Machos from Nitro Dog BBQ took 🥉 place, Pickle Bacon Ranch Pizza from Swains Concessions snagged 🥈 place, and (drum roll, please…) Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cookie Butter Pretzel Bites from Wilson Concessions brought home 🥇 place.

Now, we don’t want to say we swayed voters’ opinions on their Taste of the Fair ballots by any means, but did we? We tried (and loved) the CTCCBPB, and the BBQ Machos had a nice combination of flavors, too.

The good news is you can still try them and other great fair foods if you get out to the Indiana State Fair today through Sunday, August 17. Snag your tickets here.
