📜 This Week in Indiana History 📜
First Event Held at Market Square Arena (1974)
The Indiana Pacers’ most recent season was a great success, as they came up just one win short of the organization’s first NBA title. That success was not always the case, however. Once an ABA Team, the ‘Cers eventually joined the NBA when the ABA merged with the league in the late 1970s. Before that merger, the city of Indianapolis built Market Square Arena as the home of the Pacers in 1974.
For this edition of This Week in Indiana History, we celebrate the first event held at Market Square Arena… a Glen Campbell concert. Glen Campbell was a country artist back in the day and performed to a sold-out crowd on September 15, 1974. Three years later, the arena hosted Led Zeppelin on their final U.S. Tour and played host to Elvis Presley’s last concert the same year.
In 1999, the Pacers left Market Square Arena to play in what is now known as Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Market Square Arena was demolished in 2001, and the site is now occupied by a 38-story apartment building and Whole Foods Market. Nevertheless, whether it’s a Pacers game or concert, we will always remember the first major arena in Indianapolis.

One of Fortville’s biggest year-round attractions is Piney Acres Farm. This Hancock County property spans 73 acres and is full of seasonal activities. Starting tomorrow, September 19, the Piney Acres Scream Farm will open to the public with both indoor and outdoor experiences for all ages.
Located just east of Anderson, Mounds State Park has history that dates back 1,500 years to indigenous peoples who once lived in the area. Indiana’s ninth state park is home to The Great Mound, which was believed to have been the home for tribal ceremonies.

👏 1 Big wIN 👏
Over the summer, this section was reserved for the Indiana Pacers and their improbable run to Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
It’s now football season, and all eyes are on the Indianapolis Colts. What’s up, 2-0!?
After burying the Miami Dolphins 33-8 in the season opener at Lucas Oil Stadium, the Colts leaned on Jonathan Taylor's 165 rushing yards, 50 receiving yards and touchdown, another efficient, turnover-free game by Daniel Jones, and five field goals from the right leg of Spencer Shrader — including a 45-yard walk-off with no time on the clock — to defeat the Denver Broncos 29-28 at home. Sure, there was a beneficial leverage penalty that gave the Colts a second chance at the buzzer. We’ll take it, thank you very much. The Colts are alone atop the AFC South and off to their first 2-0 start since 2009.
The vibes? Immaculate.
