☀️ This week’s INsights
📊 Stat of the Day: Do you know what Indiana’s largest county is? That would be Allen County, at 657.1 square miles. Allen County is home to our 2nd largest city, Fort Wayne. Our smallest county is Ohio County, coming in at 87 square miles. This county is home to Rising Sun - which is the only incorporated community in the county - but, they’ve still got a Casino. (lucky’s)

This week in 1812, saw one of the first attacks of the War of 1812, in Pigeon Roost. Pigeon Roost was established in 1809, mainly by settlers from Kentucky. Families living in what is today Scott, Clark, Jefferson, and Washington counties can often trace their ancestry back to these families. The town was called Pigeon Roost because of the great number of Passenger Pigeons in the area.

🧢 Taking Wiffle Ball Next Level - Have you heard of The Dirtyard, in Indianapolis? Founded by Brendan Dudas, The Dirtyard is one of the nation’s premier Wiffle Ball Stadiums. They even hosted the National Wiffle Ball Tournament in 2021. Now, they host wiffle ball leagues for young and old wiffle-ballers every summer. And - they raised $8,000 for Pediatric Brain Cancer last weekend!
Playing wiffle ball on a field like this is every young man’s dream.👇

Gone Fishin’ 🎣🐟 - Fort Wayne’s own Kyle Hammond caught a MASSIVE 9-pound, 11-ounce spotted gar on Rivir Lake in Chain O’Lakes State Park. Even better, he absolutely smoked the previous Indiana state record of 6-pound, 12.5-ounces. Kyle broke his fishing rod in the process (RIP). But as they say, rod’s get remembered, but legends never die. Thatta boy, Kyle.

🫐 The Blueberry Festival 🫐 - This Labor Day weekend - you have to check out an absolute banger of a festival - the historic Blueberry Festival.

Since 1966, Plymouth has hosted what has been called a “Top 100 Event” in North America by the American Business Association.
About 500,000 people visit every year for over 300 craft vendors, 100 food booths, and a ridiculous amount of fun events.

The Blueberry Festival Pedal Tractor Pull
The must-try’s include blueberry delights like blueberry pie, blueberry ice cream, blueberry shakes, sundaes, donuts, and blueberry cheesecake.

The legendary Blueberry Donut Stand blueberry donuts
And, the festival’s fireworks show is a must-see

Why is it called the “Blueberry Festival”?
Glad you asked… In 1966, the Plymouth Jaycees organized a Labor Day Celebration for Marshall County to observe Indiana's sesquicentennial. (a 150th anniversary). So many people showed up, they decided to hold the event every year. And, at the time, Marshall County provided 1/3 of Indiana’s blueberry crop - thus, The Blueberry Festival was born.

Indianapolis Named Host for 2025 WNBA All-Star Game 🏀
This marks back-to-back years for Indianapolis after hosting the 2024 NBA All-Star game back in February
This is the 3rd time in history that a city has hosted these events back to back. It’s only fitting for the home of hoops.
