Get Indiana’s Weekly Newsletter

This week’s Get Indiana newsletter arrives to your inbox two days earlier than its usual Thursday release. Rather than checking your email on Christmas morning, check what Santa left under the tree and create holiday memories with loved ones.

Looking ahead to next week’s newsletter, we’ll send that one out on Friday, Jan. 2. That’ll give you an extra day of recovery from New Year’s Eve celebrations and a night of sleep after a hopeful IU win over Alabama in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.

So, Merry Christmas AND Happy New Year! Thank you for your incredible support of Get Indiana in 2025. We can’t wait to bring you all the hidden gems, small town breakdowns, and more in 2026.

Cheers,
Get Indiana

📜 This Week in Indiana History 📜

Humorist Kin Hubbard Passes Away (1930)

This week in Indiana history we remember the Dec. 26, 1930 passing of Kin Hubbard, whose comics featured Abe Martin of Brown County and appeared in hundreds of newspapers across America for nearly 30 years. Through Martin’s sharp observations, dry wit, and sayings, Hubbard captured a Hoosier wisdom that resonated with readers nationwide.

Hubbard’s influence and legacy are still felt throughout Brown County. The lodge at Brown County State Park is named for his beloved Abe Martin creation, and the character’s likeness appears on the welcome sign in Nashville, Ind. These tributes reflect how deeply Hubbard’s work shaped the identity of the region and how his humor connects generations to Indiana’s traditions and values.

Illinois’ loss could be Indiana’s gain.

Last Wednesday, just a few days before the Chicago Bears’ improbable 22-16 overtime win against the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field, Bears president and CEO Kevin Warren released a letter that sent shockwaves through the NFL world. For the first time ever, the team officially confirmed it is exploring sites for a new stadium outside Illinois. The area mentioned specifically? Northwest Indiana.

Indiana with two NFL teams? No, this is not a drill.
