What’s happening Hoosiers? We’re halfway through the month of August - hope you’re soaking up the last weeks of summer! Let’s get down to this week’s interesting news & hidden gem.

☀️ This week’s INsights

  • Set For Takeoff 🎈📬 - The first official air mail (by balloon) took place on August 17th, 1859. John Wise used his famous hot air balloon Jupiter to take of from the Lafayette Postmaster. Although he never reached his correct location (I mean, it’s a balloon), it was the first ever Air Mail delivered by the Postal Service. So S/O John, widely considered to be the father of ballooning.

  • Stat of the Day 📊: Speaking of summer, have you spent any time floating in Indiana’s lakes or Rivers? Indiana is home to over 160,000 acres of lakes and reservoirs. 🏞️💧

Hoosier Headlines

Pickleball stays hot! 🔥 - 19 new premier indoor pickleball facilities are launching across the state thanks to the Pickleball Kingdom. These clubs are known for state-of-the-art facilities, the clubs offer climate-controlled indoor courts, cozy lounge areas, and exceptional training programs.

P.S. If you’re an entrepreneur, they are looking for franchisees.

🦅 Birds of Prey - It’s been 30 years since the Peregrine Falcon was reintroduced to Indiana. These birds are the fastest on Earth and can dive down on their prey at up to 200 mph. (That’s the length of a football field in a second!) That test was a success, as nests can now be found in Anderson, Indy, Fort Wayne, and along Lake Michigan.

Family Farms Still Going Strong 👨‍🌾🌽 - Over 100 family farms were recognized for 100+ years of production this week. In total, 103 families were recognized for owning & farming the same land for 100, 150, and even 200 years straight. That’s how you honor tradition!

Holiday World 🎅🎃🦃🎆 - This theme park near Indiana’ southern border just celebrated it’s 75th year in 2021. Holiday World touts itself as the world’s first theme park.

When you visit, you can ride some of the world's best wooden roller coasters & water coasters.

Plus, there are free sunscreen and soft drink stations throughout the park. That will get any Hoosier hype.

And, right down the road from Santa Claus, is Lincoln’s boyhood home.

Here, you can see where Lincoln spent his youth before traveling to Illinois. All of this makes visiting Santa Claus a MUST as a Hoosier.
