📜 This Week in Indiana History 📜
The Hoosier Dome Hosts First Colts Preseason Game in Indianapolis (1984)
Before Lucas Oil Stadium became home of the Indianapolis Colts, there was the Hoosier Dome, which is the topic of This Week in Indiana History. Construction began in May 1982, originally to attract an NFL team to Indianapolis. The forward-thinking project worked, as the Baltimore Colts and Robert Irsay infamously moved the franchise to the Circle City in the dead of night in March 1984.
The Hoosier Dome, known for its flexible roof made of Teflon-coated fiberglass supported by the building’s air pressure, was the smallest stadium in the NFL. For the majority of the Colts’ tenure there, the stadium unfortunately did not see much in the way of wins. That all changed when the Colts drafted Peyton Manning with the No. 1 overall pick in 1998, leading to what became one of the most dominant NFL teams of the 2000s.
In 2008, the Colts left the Hoosier Dome (then named the RCA Dome) for a new state-of-the-art stadium called Lucas Oil Stadium. The RCA Dome’s roof was deflated on September 24 of that year, with the whole stadium being demolished on December 20 to make room for a $275 million expansion to the Indianapolis Convention Center.

IN Golf Courses Just Fore You ️⛳️
We’ve got a few golfers (well, we should say they play golf) on the Get Indiana crew, and they each have played at beautiful courses across Indiana. So, we came up with a dozen courses you’ve got to play this summer or fall.
Starting in Jasper, Indiana, Sultan’s Run (18th hole pictured below) is a favorite, but where does it rank in difficulty and price? What other courses in southern Indiana made the cut?
Moving to central Indiana, Get Indiana has played on two of the four courses mentioned already this year. Can you name them?
In northern Indiana, two private and two public courses cracked our top four, with the Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame a personal favorite.
What courses did we miss or would be considered a hidden gem? Submit here and we’ll try to get out and play it ourselves!

Gem hunting? Start at Khamis đź’Ťđź’Ž
This gem in southern Indiana is hidden beneath the surface, quite literally. Marengo Cave in Marengo is open year-round and is dubbed as Indiana’s most visited natural attraction.
Founded by 15-year-old Blanche Hiestand and her 11-year-old brother Orris on Sept. 6, 1883, Marengo Cave soon after opened for public tours. Today, Marengo Cave has two walking tours — Crystal Palace and Dripstone Trail. You can’t go wrong tagging along on either of them!
Located just off U.S. 31 in Arcadia, Wilson Farm Market has been a beloved stop for visitors to shop farm-fresh goods and soak up small-town vibes since 1968.
The family-run operation began as an egg stand and has since grown into a full-fledged market, with seasonal items like sweet corn, tomatoes, green beans, peppers, and more often available alongside baked breads, pies, doughnuts, Amish fry pies, pretzel bread, jams, jellies, and homemade fudge.
Is your mouth watering yet? Now it will be…
You can order Chickalicious Fried Chicken before your visit by calling (317) 758-5734. Yes, please.
Wilson Farm Market is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., so stop in, grab a bite, shop around, and enjoy a slice of Hoosier history.

👏 1 Big wIN 👏
This week’s big win? Those who indulged in some of the craziest fair foods (or plan to!) at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis.
If you’re asking the answer is yes, we did try some of the wild concoctions for ourselves. The Bacon Honeybun Burger was sweet and savory, the BBQ Machos had a good crunch topped with cheesy macaroni and smoky pulled pork, and the Brunch Mary hit the spot with garnishments that seemingly never ended.
Which Taste of the Fair item was our absolute favorite, however? See below to find out.
