Wendell Willkie Accepts the Republican Nomination for President in Elwood (1940)
An estimated 150,000 people coming together for a political acceptance speech is unheard of in today’s times, but in 1940, that’s exactly what happened in Elwood, Indiana for Wendell Willkie.
Willkie accepted the Republican nomination in a speech to the largest political gathering in U.S. history up to that point in his boyhood hometown of Elwood. He did not win the election, however, as he tried unsuccessfully to unseat President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The Get Indiana team recently spent a weekend in Brown County in the quaint town of Nashville, Indiana, and came back full with recommendations on where to stay, eat and play.
The weekend revolved around the Bourbon & BBQ Festival at Hard Truth Distillery, which hosts events from May through October. Stops at Moontown Brewing, Nashville House, Ooey Gooey Cinnamon Rolls, Brown County State Park, and many other attractions added to an unforgettable experience. If you haven’t been to Nashville or Brown County, it’s an absolute must-visit, especially when the leaves start to change color in the fall.

InRugCo Studio & Gift Shop is a family-owned boutique in the heart of Mishawaka. Pam and Rex Richards opened the shop 40 years ago as a custom rug workshop, and it’s now a little-bit-of-everything mercantile with a collection of locally made and nationally recognized brands.
We visited the shop ourselves, and this is no joke — you will walk out with a lighter wallet. From patio and kitchen decor to clothing and Indiana merch, they’ve got it all. Check out our full InRugCo business breakdown and watch our experience below.
For nearly 80 years in southwest Indiana, Dick Clark’s Family Restaurant (no, not the Dick Clark of American Bandstand fame) has been serving up homestyle meals to visitors who pass through Princeton.
This Dick Clark is actually a local legend who turned an ice cream stand into a community staple with his wife Edna. The ice cream shop originated in 1946 alongside his uncle’s grocery store, and it’s now a restaurant where locals can’t get enough of the Bob Key Pizza, DC Burger, fried chicken, frog legs, milkshakes and sundaes.

LIV Golf Indianapolis liv-ed up to the hype at the Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield this past weekend, with Sebastian Munoz (who carded an opening round 59!) prevailing over Jon Rahm in a playoff to win the $4 million purse. Munoz’s win came with some drama as well. He trailed Rahm by two strokes with two holes to play but birdied No. 17 and 18 to force the playoff, then replayed No. 18 and again birdied to win the first LIV tournament ever played in the Hoosier State.
All wasn’t lost for Rahm, however. His second-place tournament finish was enough to pass Joaquin Niemann en route to his second straight season-long LIV Individual Championship. The bag for winning that? $18 million.
While Munoz won the tournament and Rahm claimed the Individual Championship, Indiana was the overall winner. LIV announced Saturday the league will return to Chatham Hills from Aug. 21-23, 2026, to determine the 2026 season’s Individual Champion.
